CALLING HOURS ARE CANCELLED Roy H. Linden, 89, of Franklin, died Monday Dec. 2, 2002 in Woodbridge, VA. while visiting his family. He was born Dec. 6, 1912 in Bristol, the son of George Harry Linden and Mary Wellman Linden. Roy was married to the late Grace Webster Linden for 56 years. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Webster Linden and a granddaughter, Sarah Linden-Brooks of Dumfries, VA. and several cousins. He was a graduate of Bristol High School. Roy retired from the State of Ct. where he was with the Connecticut Boating Commission, Dept. of Agriculture. He also served as Deputy Transportation Commissioner in the Bureau of Waterways. Roy was an avid sailor and he was a life member and past commander of the Norwich Power Squadron. He freely shared his knowledge and experience in boating, developing and teaching classes and writing a column, At the Helm, for the Norwich Bulletin for several years. In recent years, he docked his boat, the Argorus, in Mystic. Roy was a resident of Franklin for over 60 years and he was active on many town committees including the Board of Tax Review and the committee to build the first consolidated Franklin Elementary School. Roy was elected town meeting moderator for more than 25 years. He was a member of the Franklin Congregational Church and the Franklin Grange #184. He was also a life member of the Franklin Masonic Lodge in Bristol. His funeral service will be held on Friday at 1:00pm at the Franklin Congregational Church, Meetinghouse Hill Rd., Franklin, with the Rev. Linda Barnes officiating. Burial will follow in the Plains Cemetery, Franklin. In lieu of flowers, his family suggests memorial donations to the Norwich Power Squadron Memorial Fund, C/O Theodore Simmons, Treasurer, 535 Westford Rd., Ashford, CT 06278. or to the Franklin Congregational Church, 66 Meetinghouse Hill Rd., N. Franklin,Ct. 06245.
