Rose A. Haddad. Heaven just called home one of its sweetest, hardest working angels. On May 5th, 2006, Rose Haddad, of Willimantic, beloved proprietor of Lindy s Restaurant, joined her late husband George, parents Charles and Emma, sisters Nellie and Jenny and brothers George and Eddie. Born in 1908, Rose lived her entire life in Willimantic. She was a graduate of the Morse School of Business and began her career at The American Thread Co. She took over Lindy s in 1948 after the death of her husband. Lindy s was a second home to hundreds of regulars and she treated every one of them as if they were family. She also established the first canteen at American Thread. After Lindy s closed in 1973, she embarked on a second, 20 year career as a hostess at the Faculty Alumni Center of the University of Connecticut. Rose is survived by her three children, Ron Haddad of Ledyard and his wife Mary Jane, Dik Haddad of West Hartford and his wife Mary Ann Gates, and Judy Haddad of Scotland and her husband Ed. She also leaves her sister, Ruth, 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, her caretaker, Kristina and a legion of nieces, nephews, family and friends. There will never be another Lindy s. And there will never be another Rose. Calling hours will be at Potter s Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Rte. 195, Willimantic on Tuesday from 6 - 8 PM. Funeral services will be at St. Mary s Church, Valley St., Willimantic, on Wednesday at 9 AM with assembly at the church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham.
