Ronald Louis Brochu, 81, of Chaplin, beloved husband of Joyce (Haddad) Brochu, entered eternal life on July 21, 2014, after a valiant fight with a prolonged illness. Son of the late Louis and Rose Brochu, born in Willimantic on Sept. 11, 1932, he was a lifelong resident of Chaplin. Ron proudly and courageously served as a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army. In 1957, he married the love of his life, Joyce Haddad, and tirelessly worked hard to build his home and raise his family. He was employed for many years as a plumber for Despathy Plumbing and Heating and later retired from E.C.S.U. in 1993. Ron's life was his family and home. He was truly a gentleman, and a jack of all trades. He took great pride in his home and his yard. He was a wonderful husband and a role model father. His greatest treasure in life was his grandson Aaron, whom he enjoyed and loved with all his heart. He sadly leaves behind his wife Joyce of 57 years, a son Douglas Brochu and his wife Denise, a daughter Judith Tumel and her husband Gary, and a grandson Aaron Tumel. He also leaves a sister Doris Garrison and her husband John, and several nieces and nephews. His family will receive relatives and friends on Friday July 25, 2014 between 6:00 and 8:00pm at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic. His funeral service will take place on Saturday at 10:00am at St. Paul Episcopal Church, 220 Valley St. Willimantic with interment following in South Chaplin Cemetery.
