Roland F. Marshall, 79, of Windham Center, husband of Julia (Kneeland) Marshall, died Monday, February 16, 2009 at the Windham Hospital. He was born June 23, 1929 in Plainfield, the son of William and Clorinda Marshall and had lived in Windham most of his life. He was a U. S. army veteran of World War II and Korea. Prior to his retirement he was employed for 30 years at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft. Roland was a member of the Windham Center Volunteer Fire Department and involved with Little League and the Boys Scouts when his children were growing up. In addition to his wife of 59 years, he is survived by three children, Eileen Marshall of Willimantic, Paul Marshall and his wife Claudette, also of Willimantic, Alan Marshall of Windham Center, a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Marshall of North Windham, a sister, Claire Desrosier and her husband Willie of Chaplin, eight grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, one great great grandson, many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by many great friends, including Barbara Mosca, Jackie Marshall and Kathy Farley and family. Roland was predeceased by a son, Daniel Marshall, two sisters, Judy Giroux and Bridget Bedard and a brother, Bill Marshall. His family will receive friends on Thursday from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 29 Puddin Lane, Mansfield with funeral services beginning at 5:00 p.m. Burial will be private in Windham Center Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Windham Center Fire Department or the First United Methodist Church. Arrangements are through the Potter Funeral Home, Willimantic.
