NORTH FRANKLIN - Rocco Carboni 84, of Franklin, passed away peacefully at his home with his two daughters by his side on Friday July 01, 2011. He was born in Franklin on May 20, 1927, the son of the late Giuseppe "Joseph" and Elisabetta "Elizabeth" (Calla) Carbone.Rocco is survived by his two daughters Calli and Candace Carboni, his two grandsons Zachary Eldridge and Spencer Carboni and two sisters Eleanor Marc-Aurele of Norwich and Anna Smith of Prescott Valley, Arizona and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his six brothers, Anthony, Vincent, John, Joseph and Salvatore "Sam" Carboni of Franklin, Dominick Carboni of Punta Gorda, Fla.; four sisters Mary Alberico, Rose Cosentino, Euphemia " Fannie" Korenkiewicz, of Franklin, Josephine "Dolly" Hall-Allen of Wolfeboro NH.; two nephews Lance Korenkiewicz, and Michael Carboni of Franklin. Being born into a large Italian family, Roc in his youth worked along side his father and family. After working with the Central Vermont Railroad, he joined the United States Navy in 1945 and served proudly in WWII where he earned the American Theater medal, Victory Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Medal and was honorably discharged in 1950. In 1951, during the Korean War he joined the U.S. Air Force and again served proudly until his honorable discharge in 1954. He then returned to his family home and business Carboni Brother's Garage in Franklin. Roc worked in construction for many years clearing land and building golf courses throughout the northeast. Roc worked in many different areas of construction throughout his years in Connecticut as well as Florida. After returning from Florida he began working at Electric Boat as a piping supervisor for many years. Roc loved to travel, "the grass never grew under his feet" throughout his life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, the outdoors, and golf for recreation when he was not working. Roc had many dogs, a deer, and an otter as pets when he was a child and his love of animals remained throughout his life. He met many people throughout his life. However, Chet Mieczynski and he were the closest of friends throughout their lives. In their retirement they spent the better part of most days solving the problems of the world. They both endured their final battle with cancer courageously side by side in the last year of their life. His family will receive relatives and friends on Friday July 08, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson Street (Route 195) Willimantic. His funeral will be Saturday July 09, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Potter Funeral Home and burial at Pautipaug Cemetery in Franklin will follow.
