Robert Wojnar Obituary
Robert (Bob) Wojnar, 88, passed away peacefully at his home in Willimantic on June 28, 2024. He was the loving husband of Rose (Lambert) Wojnar for 56 beautiful, inseparable years. He was the father of their only daughter, Lisa (Wojnar) Nilsson for whom he loved and adored as well as being a proud father-in-law of her husband, Greg Nilsson. He was known as “Papa” to his 2 grandchildren, Aaron and Natalie Nilsson who meant so much to him and enjoyed every moment he had with them watching them as they grew up.

He was born and raised in Willimantic by his parents, the late Frank Wojnar and Helen (Olszewski) Wojnar. He also leaves behind his “favorite” brother, James Wojnar and his “dear” sister-in-law, Joyce Wojnar of Bozrah and their children Jason Wojnar and family of Glastonbury and Chad Wojnar and his wife, Julie and family of Norwich. He is also survived by his special cousins, Sandra (Janowski) Lee and husband, Leonard Lee of Tolland and John Janowski of Enfield.

During his life he had many things that he accomplished and enjoyed. He proudly graduated from the University of Connecticut (Go Huskies!) and proceeded to have a career as an accountant at Republic (formerly LTV Steel) Steel Company in Willimantic for 40 years until his retirement. He also spent 2 years proudly serving our country in the U.S. Army and was called back for duty for a short time during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He also enjoyed the time he spent as a member and past president of the Pulaski (Polish) Club as well as lifetime member of the Willimantic Elks Club #1311.

He will always be remembered for the love and respect of his Polish heritage. Back in his early days he enjoyed playing the accordion and formed his own Polka band with his brother and a few close friends. He mostly looked forward to keeping the family tradition of celebrating Christmas Eve (Wigilia) with all the Polish foods he loved. He most enjoyed the precious time he spent with his wife, Rose either going on vacations to Maine or Lake George or just sitting at home talking and reminiscing about the good old days. He got joy out of the simple things in life. He was content sitting down reading his newspapers, enjoying a cold drink on the patio or just watching his favorite tv shows. He loved his daily trips to the store where everyone would admire his “gorgeous, sleek white hair”. He always liked to joke around and make people laugh or smile.

We believe that he wants to be remembered by all the fun times he shared with his family and friends. He will be missed dearly.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Willimantic Fire Department for their quick response and the kindness and support they provided the family during this difficult time.

Bob’s family will receive family and friends for brief calling hours on Monday, July 8, 2024 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. Willimantic. Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 at St. Joseph’s Church, 99 Jackson St. with burial at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Club Road. Everyone is welcome to join for a celebration of life reception at the Windham Center Fire Department hall, 18 Windham Center Rd. following services.
