Robert Spoerl Obituary
Robert Spoerl, of Scotland CT, husband of Anne Spoerl, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2024.
Robert was born in Derby, CT, on March 29, 1930, son of the late Alfred and Hilda Spoerl. He graduated from Shelton High School and joined the United States Navy. His last duty assignment was the USS Battleship Missouri. Following this, at age 21, Robert was raised in the state of Florida to Master Mason, Cabul Lodge 116.
Robert was a draftsman at Farrell Birmingham in Ansonia, CT, and then entered the CT Fish and Game Department as a conservation officer. After some transfers, he retired as a supervising land agent. Much like his profession, Robert’s hobbies were “all things outdoors”, from gardening to arrowhead collecting. He enjoyed antiquing with Anne, cooking, fishing, hunting, spending time with his family, and trips to Cape Cod.
Robert leaves behind his loving children, daughter Susan and husband Larry, son Robert and wife Carol, son Fred and partner Gail, and daughter Linda and partner Mike. Also left behind are his grandson Edward, grandson Matthew and wife Emily, and great-grandson Ben. He is predeceased by his beloved wife Anne and his brother Alfred.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to his best friends Tim Linkala and Joe Risago, our support system Barbara and Phil, and Scotland Volunteer Fire Department, past members and current, for their compassion and years of answering the call. Also to Jinny, Abby, Carolyn, Steph, Paul, Noemy, Claire, and so many others, thank you so much, words cannot express our gratitude.
Robert’s services will be privately held at the family’s convenience and there will be no calling hours.
