Robert M. Smith Died August 30, 2007 PRESTON - Robert M. Smith, 68, of Preston, CT, died early Thursday Aug. 30, 2007 at Hospice Care of Rhode Island. He was the son of the late Michael J. and Rose (Kolvek) Smith of North Franklin, CT. A graduate of Windham High School, he attended the University of Connecticut and was in the Army Reserve before entering the automobile business begun by his father in North Franklin. He went on to run his own automobile dealership in North Stonington, CT. In 2003 he retired after 40 years in the business. He was a wonderful father to Carol Ann Roberts of Franklin and Robert M. Smith II of Mansfield. He was the loving companion of Anne Dittmar of Warwick, RI. He is also survived by a brother Michael James "Jim" Smith of Franklin, a son in law Kenneth Roberts, a daughter in law Laurie Watson, his former wife Marie Smith and several nieces and nephews. His family will receive friends at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic on Wednesday Sept. 5th from 10:30 to 11:00am with a service to begin at 11:00am. Private interment will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham.
