Robert W. Pollitt, 75, of Willimantic, passed away peacefully at Mansfield Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Storrs, CT, following a short period of declining health on Sunday, May 4, 2014. Born in New Bedford, MA, on August 30, 1938, Bob was the son of the late Claire (Bettencourt) and Thomas Pollitt, Jr. He moved to Willimantic at the age of 18 to work at Pratt and Whitney in Hartford, CT, before enlisting in the US Air Force for four years. After his discharge from the Air Force, Bob held various jobs before he started at Brand Rex in Willimantic, working over 20 years as a computer programmer, a job he truly enjoyed. Bob was interested in a great many activities, including music (playing piano and guitar, and composing), photography, ceramics, and watching his large collection of DVDs. He enjoyed sharing all that he learned with others and choosing gifts for his friends and family. He especially loved spending time with the love of his life, Catherine Hamel. Bob is survived by his two brothers, Hubert Pollitt and his wife Christine of Merritt, NC, and Normand Pollitt and his wife Maureen of East Templeton, MA, and seven nieces and nephews. Family and friends will gather for visitation at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson Street, Willimantic, CT, and then proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph's Church, 99 Jackson Street in Willimantic at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Bob's family wishes to thank the staff at MCNR for their concern and care of Bob over these last years of his life. Their love, encouragement, and support were constant.
