Robert Phaneuf Obituary
Robert Joseph Phaneuf, Sr., 86, of Willimantic, CT passed away peacefully on December 24, 2023 with his wife of 65 years by his side. He was born in Willimantic on July 21, 1937, the son of the late Wilfred and Marguerite (Beauregard) Phaneuf.

Bob was a graduate of Windham High School. Shortly after graduating, he started his career at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft where he worked for 36 years, working his way up to general foreman. He was lucky enough to retire at 54 to pursue his passions. Robert was a communicant of St. Joseph Church, life member of the Franco American Social & Civic Club and the Elk’s Club (BPOE 1311). He was a long-time member of the Windham Club, formerly known as The Willimantic Country Club, where he played with the Nooners for many years and helped out with cooking for various club tournaments.

Fishing became a passion after retirement, he was a self-taught catch and release fly fisherman and spent many hours fishing the rivers of eastern CT. Bob acquired a small Boston Whaler and soon was fishing the CT Shoreline for Blues and Stripers.

Retiring early also left time for trips to FL, Dauphin Island, AL to see the beautiful chapel at EWTN and to visit old friends, and a trip to Graceland and Disney World to fulfill a dream of his beloved son Randy. Bob adored his granddaughters Joslin and Lindsay and was there to cheer them on at all their activities.

Left to mourn him are his wife Patricia, sons Robert, Jr. and his wife Linda and Alan and his wife Sharon, granddaughters Joslin Lorange and her husband John and Lindsay Phaneuf and her fiancé Christian Handel, sister Jeanie Munson, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Randy, sister Evelyn Chailifoux, brothers Richard and Wilfred “Freddy” Phaneuf.

The family would like to thank the staff at Douglas Manor for their care of Bob in the last year.

There are no calling hours. His Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at 10:00am at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St. Willimantic with his burial following at St. Joseph Cemetery on Club Rd. in Windham. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Special Olympics, 2666 State St. #1, Hamden, CT 06517.
