Robert P. Moran

July 13, 1962 — May 22, 2025

Robert “Bob” Paul Moran, 63, of East Haven, CT, went to be with our Lord on Thursday, May 22, 2025. Bob passed peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with end-stage liver disease and most recently, Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
Born on Friday, July 13, 1962, in Willimantic, CT, he was the youngest of six children of the late Edward and Catherine (Bombria) Moran. Bob cherished his family deeply, and he always knew he was loved especially given the 8 year time gap to his next oldest sibling.
A 1980 graduate of Windham High School, Bob proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1981 to 1984 as a Military Policeman. Stationed in California and Germany, he especially valued the opportunity to travel skiing the Matterhorn during his time abroad.
Bob met the love of his life, Janet (Crosby) Moran, while they were both working at United Nuclear in Uncasville, CT. They married on October 22, 1988; moved to Vermont in 1989 to raise their family. He began with the Vermont Department of Corrections in 1990, working at the Northeast Regional Correctional Facility as a Correctional Officer. He then transitioned to a position as a Community Correctional Officer and later became a Probation and Parole Officer in St. Johnsbury, VT. He retired in 2016, grateful for the opportunity to support individuals striving to change their lives.
In 2019, Bob and Janet moved to East Haven, CT, where he continued his service to others by transporting veterans to and from the VA Hospital in West Haven. A proud veteran himself, this work held deep meaning for him.
Bob was a storyteller at heart who loved being surrounded by family and friends. He was always up for a game of cards or a board game. He found great joy in camping in Vermont, kayaking, bicycling, nighttime swimming, and sharing s’mores around the campfire. One of his greatest personal achievements was his 18 years of sobriety crediting many people who helped him one day at a time.
Bob and his family wish to express heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate nurses and caregivers at the VA Hospital in West Haven especially those in the Liver Clinic, ATU, and the Palliative Care Team for their extraordinary care.
He is predeceased by his brother Edward Moran and sisters Eileen Ossen and Ellen Noheimer. He is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Janet Moran of East Haven, CT, and their two daughters, Maegan Moran (Will Moore) of East Haven, CT, and Shannan Moran (Trevor Dodge) of Lyndonville, VT. He also leaves behind two sisters, Linda (Spencer Adams) of Meriden, CT, and Susan (Walter Goettlich) of Wells, ME; a sister-in-law, Lynn Moran of Bethlehem, PA; and brothers-in-law Charles (Mary) Crosby of Lyndonville, VT, and Jack Noheimer of Columbia, CT. Bob will be lovingly remembered by his five grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Calling hours will be held at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195), Willimantic, on Thursday, May 29, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 30, at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St., Willimantic.
In lieu of flowers, Bob requested that donations be made to the American Liver Foundation in support of research and those battling liver disease.
