Robert E. Mathieu, 85, formerly of Ash St. Willimantic, husband of Evelyn (Prue) Mathieu, died Sunday March 6, 2005 at the Windham Hospital after a short illness. He was born Feb. 11, 1920 in Columbia the son of William and Arthemise (Houle) Mathieu. Bob retired in 1985 from the American Thread Co. where he had been employed for 45 years. He was a communicant of St. Joseph Church. Bob enjoyed gardening and was an avid N.Y. Yankee fan. In addition to his wife of 60 years Evelyn, he is survived by his daughter and son in law, Roberta and Joseph Gagne of Fairfield, a brother John Mathieu of Columbia, a sister Beatrice Mathieu of Phoenix, AZ., 3 grandsons, John Gagne of Fairfield, Timothy Gagne of Newtown and Peter Gagne of Quebec, Canada; 2 great granddaughters, Madeleine and Lauren Gagne of Newtown and several nieces and nephews. His family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic on Wednesday between 5:00 and 7:00pm. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 9:00am at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St., Willimantic with assembly at the church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Coventry.
