Robert M Murphy

Robert M. Murphy, of Storrs/Mansfield CT, husband of Patricia (Kirby) Murphy, died on August 12, 2017 at Windham Memorial Hospital. He was the son of the late Raymond and Elizabeth (Mattern) Murphy. Bob served in the US Navy during World War II, and later graduated from the University of Michigan, with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. After associations with Xerox of Rochester NY and PR Mallory of Indianapolis, in 1963 he joined Harvey Hubbell, Bridgeport, CT, and soon became their Vice President of Research and Engineering. Bob also worked as an engineering executive at Arrow Hart Inc. in Hartford. During his engineering career, he?was awarded?9 patents,?and founded his own company ? Mu-tronics; all were in the wiring device industry. In his retirement, he pursued a paralegal degree at Manchester Community College, joined the State of Connecticut Judicial Department, and became a teaching volunteer at Bergin Correctional Institution. In addition to his wife Pat of 62 years,?Robert is survived by four sons and daughters, and six grandchildren: Willa and Stephen Murphy -?granddaughters Ellen of Boston, and Sheanna of Windham, CT; Mary Pat and Todd Hall - grandson Matthew and granddaughter McKenzie of San Diego, CA; Eileen and James Halley - grandson Charles of Bridgeport PA; Kevin and Carla Murphy - and their expectant daughter of San Diego, CA. He is predeceased by five sisters, all of western New York. There are no calling hours. The family is planning a memorial in the near future.
