Robert H. Lyder. “Pop Pop”, age 83 of Coventry, CT, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, December 14th at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT.
Bob was born in Rockville Centre, N.Y. to George and Murial Lyder on March 12, 1942. As a graduate of Adelphi University, he went on to have an accomplished CPA career operating his own firm for decades.
Bob had a fierce passion for golf and always seemed to be playing or practicing. He was always eager to talk about his love for golf. Bob also loved his yard, and his labor kept it tidy, beautiful and well respected. It was very much a source of pride.
Pop Pop was a devoted family man. Always a giver of good advice while also making sure we were all on the right path were continuous gifts he gave. Quite simply, Bob was a good and solid man. You knew where you stood with him and what he valued. If you were Bob’s friend, you were a friend for life.
Bob is survived by his children Jennifer, Christopher and David (spouse Deirdre). His loving partner of forty-six years, Marie, and her children Dana (spouse David), Dennis, Daniel and David. His grandchildren, Emma, Madison, Lindsey, Erin, Sullivan, Ryan and Ava. His great grandson, Atticus. And his partner in crime and close friend Bill Hall.
Bob loved his family and friends very much. He had a deep well of love that was rarely publicly shown, however, Bob’s actions always spoke so loudly you just knew how much he cared. He will be missed tremendously and remembered always.
Next time you dine out please overtip your waitstaff in Bob’s name. He would have wanted that as he himself did this on a daily basis.
Please consider making a donation in Bob’s name to the Brain Injury Alliance Connecticut at www.biact.org.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, December 21, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Potter Funeral Home.
