Robert Andrew Hamilton

August 24, 1956 — July 18, 2014

Robert "Bob" Hamilton, age 57, passed away peacefully in the rocking chair of his Franklin home early Friday morning. He had been the Director of Communications for Electric Boat for over eight years after a long and passionate career in journalism working at The Chronicle, The Day, and undertaking numerous freelance projects. He faithfully served God in his daily life, particularly through various ministries at the Christian Fellowship Church in Scotland, CT including ushering, newcomer ministries, as well as men's groups and the roof ministry, working on a team that ambitiously completed, on occasion, several roofs in one day for those that needed assistance. He also participated in many United Way work days and served as chairman of the Board of Directors for The United Way. He was incredibly active in the community serving on the Board of Education for the town of Franklin and various other civic affairs. He is known as an "adoptive dad" to many, including several members of the US Coast Guard, having volunteered as a sponsor family for cadets during their time at the Academy. He lived his entire life for his family and absolutely adored his wife, Kathy, of 32 years. He and Kathy most recently returned from a vacation to Napa Valley where they enjoyed their favorite pastimes: tasting wine and enjoying the beauty of the world. The family also enjoyed many vacations to Disney World and North Conway, NH. On any given Friday evening in the summertime, Kathy and Bob could be found with their favorite four-legged children up on the hill at the outdoor concerts at Washington Park in Groton. He is survived, and fondly remembered, by his wife Kathryn, sons Nicholas and Jonathan, daughter Laura, daughter in law Amber, his beloved grandchildren Isaac and Kelsea, and loving dogs. Robert's own words speak best when summarizing the life he lived: "Since we started having children one of my ambitions has been to try to prepare them for life. Since they all seem to be doing well, hopefully it reflects something of what I have done. Achievements? Married a wonderful woman. Raised three kids. Had a great time doing it. Work is what I do to earn a living, and can be fun, but it's not what I measure my life by." A memorial service will be held at Christian Fellowship Church Saturday, July 26th at 10:00 am. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, the Hamiltons request donations to be made to the CFC college scholarship fund, specifically assisting those youth interested in attending seminary.
