Robert Clifford Greene Sr., 93, husband of the late Marion (Hoxie) Greene, passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at the Mansfield Nursing and Rehab., Storrs, CT. He was born on January 19, 1928 in Warrenville, CT , the son of the late Ariel and Irene (Wallen) Green.
Robert was a member of the First Congregational Church in Willimantic, CT since the age of 16, and served as a former Sunday School Teacher and Deacon. He served in the US Army Engineers CO A 13 Engineer Battalion in Korea as well as the Connecticut State Guard. Many of his civic accomplishments included being Cubmaster of Pack 34 and Scoutmaster of Troop 32, President of the North Windham Elementary School PTG, a member of the North Windham Fire Department, Treasurer of the Willimantic Jaycees and Secretary and Negotiator of his Local Steelworkers Union. Robert worked at the American Screw Company and at Jones and Laughlan Steel Company. After his retirement, he worked for the UCONN Alumni Foundation.
Robert was an avid UCONN Husky Women’s Basketball and New York Giants football fan. He loved fishing, hunting and water skiing, but above all he loved his family. His quick wit and one liners will be missed by all. “I wasn’t any taller than knee high to a sparrow when I caught my first fish” was one of those lines.
Robert will be deeply missed by his children, sons Robert C. Greene Jr. Willimantic, CT, Lawrence E. Greene of Willimantic, CT, daughter, Donna E. Voss (Paul) of Boulder, CO; seven grandchildren: Robert C. Greene III (Nicole) of Newington, CT, Marcia L. Forcier (Ryan) of Bristol, CT, Amy L. Greene of Bristol, CT, Danielle Da Silva (Jeremy) of Hermosa Beach, CA, Roxana Quain of Thorton, CO, and Amber and Vanessa Jones of Willimantic, CT; three great grandchildren, Lilly, Liam and Micah, as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by a son Darryl E. Greene, sisters Irene Emmons, Ruth Eisnor and Evelyn Green, and brothers Herbert and Leroy Green.
Robert’s Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at 11:00am at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Willimantic, burial, with full military honors, to follow at Windham Center Cemetery, (Rte. 203) Windham. In lieu of flowers, memorial donation in Robert’s name can be made to the American Diabetes Association at https://diabetes.org/ .
