Robert Cushing Obituary
Dr. Robert Christopher Cushing was unexpectedly and suddenly taken from this world on the evening of November 3, 2022. Dr. Cushing, a Connecticut-based optometrist, was born in Milford, CT on March 1,1952 to William and Lillian Cushing. He is survived by his wife, Ellen Diane Cushing, his children, Matthew Cushing and his wife Deborah and Leigh Ratterman; granddaughters Caroline, Catherine, and Claire Cushing; and his beloved Goldendoodle, Winnie. He will be sincerely missed by his brother Richard and his sister Nancy.
Robert's kind, generous, gentle, and steady spirit allowed all in his presence to feel safe, supported, and taken care of. In his private life, Robert’s greatest pleasures included cuddling in bed with his wife and dog, doting on his grandchildren as the world's true "best grandad," visiting his daughter for various adventures around the American West, and listening to classic rock music. In his more than forty years as an optometrist, Dr. Cushing was steadfast in providing the best of care to his patients. He was a Mensa card-holder, a Boston Bruins fan, a painter, and so much more.
Dr. Robert Christopher Cushing will be remembered by all who were lucky enough to know him as someone who loved his family with all he had. He would not want tears shed on his behalf. Instead, he would want all who read this to enjoy a walk in the woods on a warm summer day, to listen to Arlo Guthrie's "Alice's Restaurant" on Thanksgiving, or to have a slice of pizza at Zuppardi's in West Haven in his honor. Hold your family and friends close and tight, because it's true that the good ones are taken away way too soon. No services are planned as the family will hold a private remembrance in the spring to honor his memory. Please visit
