Richard A. Wrana Sr. , 78, died Monday, August 18, 2014 on the farm he loved with his loving family at his side after a 15 year fight against prostate cancer. Born in Willimantic on August 6, 1936; he was the son of the late John and Elsie Wrana Sr. Richard was preceded in death by his former wife of 32 years, Sally Badore Wrana; brother John Wrana Jr., sisters Patricia and Joan Wrana. He is survived by his son Richard A. Wrana Jr. and his wife Kathleen; his grandchildren Kristy, Nicholas, Benjamin and Autumn; sisters, Nancy O'Connor and her husband Donald, Judy Wrana; sister in law Grace Wrana; several nieces and nephews; longtime companion of 20 years, Patricia Dunham. Richard was best known for being a local custom farmer and contractor. Beginning with his first tractor, a 1939 International BM he clearly had a passion, a sense of pride in farming and a strong work ethic that will continue through experiences and knowledge he uniquely passed on to his grandsons, nephews and many others. The family wishes to thank VNA East Hospice Nurses Denise P. and Holly, their care and compassion will be remembered; Maria Brennan APRN, Dr. Peter Jones and the wonderful office staff that offered us so much support. An open house memorial will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2014 from 12-4:00PM (12:30 service)at the farm in Columbia everyone is welcome to attend. Inurnment services will be private. Arrangements have been entrusted to Potter Funeral Home.
