Richard Scheller Obituary
Richard G. Scheller, 72, of Columbia, Connecticut passed away Friday, February 17, 2023 at
Backus Hospital in Norwich after a brief battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his parents,
Oswald P. Scheller and Janice G. Scheller, by his sister Carolyn Khoury and brother-in-Law
Charlie Khoury.
When growing up, Richard travelled extensively with his siblings and parents to many national
parks and also to Europe. He was an excellent skier. Richard loved rock and roll, and he
played the guitar. He loved sailing with his father on Columbia Lake.
Richard graduated from Connecticut College with a degree in art. He was a talented jewelry
maker and artist, selling his creations at craft fairs and in the larger Connecticut arts community.
Richard gave generously of the art he created. His mom also sold Richard’s jewelry in LaJolla,
in Maui, in West Hartford stores, and to many friends.
Richard always extended a warm welcome and a smile to all, with a twinkle in his eye. Richard
was a unique person, larger than life, very much an individual, possessing no guile or
subterfuge, never shading the truth and unfailingly honest. Richard’s passing will leave a void in
many lives, which will be lived with fewer smiles and less laughter without him. Richard leaves
his sister Trudy, his niece Dhyana Bradley and her family, as well as nieces and nephews on the
west coast and in Germany. Richard will be missed by his many loyal friends from West
Hartford, from college and from Columbia Lake. Farewell, dear friend… A simple ceremony
celebrating Richard’s life will be held on Monday, February 27th at 11:00 a.m. at Cedar Hill
Cemetery, Section 9, 453 Fairfield Avenue, Hartford (across the street from the golf course)
