Richard Miller, of Storrs, well known as Ramblin' Rich, passed away on August 9th in the Windham Community Memorial Hospital of a heart condition. It is believed that he was born on November 25, 1931, the son of Alice Sidonis Miller in Springfield, Ma. His father's name is unknown. He was born the day before the first Thanksgiving was observed and celebrated in the United States, an appropriate time for Rich to appear in the world, given his ever grateful heart and his dedication to the church. He has no surviving relatives though many surviving friends who were his family. At the age of 6 months he was given to the state and was in foster homes and state institutions until the age of ten when he was placed in the Mansfield Training School where he remained until 1965 when he was released. He lived in a group home and then moved to Four Corners where he lived for over 25 years. Rich will be remembered throughout the Storrs campus and community for his upbeat, childlike attitude, the joy which he brought to each holiday season and his love of the harmonica. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 3 at 1pm at the St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 46 North Eagleville Road Storrs, CT. Donations may be made in his honor to the Covenant Soup Kitchen.
