Richard McKay Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard D. "Red" McKay, who passed away peacefully on December 30, 2024, at Backus Hospital due to complications from a fall. He was born on March 10, 1942, in Hartford, CT.

Red was devoted to his family and work, sharing 53 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Marcella McKay. Together, they built a loving family that includes three children: Richard McKay Jr. of Woonsocket, RI, William McKay of Bristol, RI, and Erin Orvis and her husband, Anthony, of Ellington, CT. Red is also survived by his sister, Gail Maske, and her husband, Cliff, of Illinois, along with many cherished nieces and nephews. He found immense joy in his five grandchildren—McKayla, Quinn, Jackson, Cascious, and Clementine—who were a constant source of pride and happiness.

After graduating from Prince Tech High School, Red served his country in the Air Guard for 23 years. He later worked as a Safety Officer for several construction companies, applying his skills to ensure safe worksites. A skilled carpenter, Red enjoyed working with his hands, solving problems, and creating with care. His beloved dog, Murph, was a constant companion and source of happiness.

Red’s life was defined by dedication, creativity, and love for his family. While we mourn his loss, we celebrate a life well-lived and hold his memory in our hearts.

A remembrance service will be held on Saturday, January 11th, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson Street, Willimantic, CT.  To leave on-line condolences, please visit: www.PotterFuneralHome.com
