Richard “Dick” Lemire, 77, formally of Columbia, CT, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 8, 2023, in Groton, CT. Married for 55 years, Richard was the beloved husband of Katherine “Cookie” (Gamache) Lemire.

Born February 14, 1946, in Windham, CT, Richard was the son of the late Joseph and Marie Lemire. Richard graduated from the Windham Technical School in 1963 and served proudly in the United States Navy as a machinist from 1963 to 1967.

Richard spent the majority of his “working life” at Brand Rex Wire and Cable Co. in Willimantic. He spent the rest of his time enjoying life. A draftsman by trade, Richard loved to work with his hands. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and going to the dump with his mother-in-law Pauline. Richard will be best remembered for his sense of humor, his quick wit, and his love of “modifying” and building things.

In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by his son Dr. Keith Lemire and his wife Heather, grandson Andrew and granddaughter Emma. He is also survived by his youngest brother Allan Lemire, sisters-in-law Joyce Lemire and Barabara Wilson and brother-in-law James Wilson. Richard was predeceased by his parents and siblings Dolly (Lemire) Rupert, Ronald Lemire and Lorraine (Lemire) Coollick, brothers-in-law Stu Rupert and Richard Coollick. Richard leaves behind several nieces and nephews, all who loved and adored him.

A graveside service and celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at 10:00am at St. Joseph Cemetery, Willimantic.
