Richard Henry Fitzgerald, 94, of Tolland, a former longtime Mansfield Center resident, died Tuesday Jan. 18, 2005 at the Vernon Manor. He was predeceased by his wife Charlotte M. (Barrett) Fitzgerald. Richard was born on Dec. 22, 1910 in Hampton the son of James J. and Susan (Malley) Fitzgerald. He had been employed as a track supervisor for the New Haven and Penn Central Railroads for 48 years prior to retiring in 1975. He was a World War 2 Army artillery veteran and a founding member of the Hampton Volunteer Fire Dept. Richard was an avid gardener, card player and a beloved Boston Red Sox fan. He is survived by 3 sons and daughters in law, David and Denise Fitzgerald of Thompson, Barry and Nina Fitzgerald of Philadelphia, PA. and Randy and Jeannette Fitzgerald of Tolland; and 7 grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Daniel, Molly, Keith, Kirk and Anne. His family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic on Friday between 5:00 and 8:00pm. There will be a gathering at the funeral home on Saturday at 9:15am prior to the procession to his 10:00am Funeral Mass at St. Joseph Church, Jackson St. Willimantic. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Danielson. In lieu of flowers, his family suggests memorial donations to the Hampton Fire Co., c/o Jerry Figueroa, 190 West Old Rte. 6, Hampton, CT. 06247.
