Richard J. Felio

OLUMBIA- Richard J. Felio, 95, of Columbia, died peacefully April 22, 2012 at St. Joseph's Living Center. He was born May 30, 1916 in Holyoke, Massachusetts the son of the late John and Maud (McNeil) Felio. He was predeceased by two beloved wives, Helen Larkin Felio (1986) and Myrtle Cadoret Felio (2008). Richard loved his family, his vegetable garden and flowers, walking on the beaches and sand flats of Cape Cod, feeding the birds, the Boston Red Sox, and the UCONN Women's Basketball team. He was the tenderest of caretakers, a most kind and gentle man. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his adored daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Luther Gibson of Columbia. He also leaves his well-loved grandchildren Laura (Garry) MacDonald, Carolyn (Ralph) Armitage, Sharon (Joseph) Murphy, Jeffrey (Ellen) Gibson and Eric (Stacey) Gibson along with great-grandchildren Meghann and Benjamin Richard MacDonald, Danielle Chaput, Jeffrey and Eric Weston and Haylee Murphy, Joe, Mike and Molly Gibson, and Noah and Sam Gibson. He also leaves his older sister Mabel Wilder of Southwick, MA and numerous devoted nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews. He was predeceased by three siblings, Ruth Hurst, Marjorie Larkin and Charles Felio. The family invites relatives and friends for calling hours from 11:00 am -12:00 pm to be followed by a celebration of his life beginning at noon on Saturday, April 28th at Potter's Funeral Home, 456 Jackson Street (Rt. 195) in Willimantic. His family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Drs. Stephen Leach and Marge Petro and to the incredibly caring and compassionate staff of St. Joseph Living Center.
