Regina Newton, 80, of Cameo Dr., Willimantic, widow of Leon Newton, died Monday Feb. 10, 2003 at home. She was born May 27, 1922 in Queens, N.Y., the daughter of George and Helen (Bass) Smith. Regina had been employed by the Mansfield Training School for many years and also enjoyed her work in childrens day care. As a person who enjoyed a quiet home life, she enjoyed reading. She is survived by 2 sons and daughters in law; Kurt and Angie Newton of Brooklyn and James and Marta Newton of Idaho, 2 daughters; Christine Herrera of Willimantic and Elizabeth Robinson of New Mexico, 2 brothers; George Smith of Windsor Locks and David Smith of San Diego, CA., 6 grandchildren, a great grandson and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held on Friday at 2:00pm in the New Willimantic Cemetery at the intersections of Rte. 6 and 32 in Willimantic. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, her family suggests memorial donations to the American Cancer Society, 238 W. Town St., Norwich, Ct. 06360. Arrangements through the Potter Funeral Home, Willimantic.
