Raymond Molnar Sr

July 1, 1928 — May 20, 2003

Raymond Molnar Sr., 74, passed away at home on May 20, 2003. He was the youngest of seven children born to Louis and Mary (Kalman) Molnar. Born in Ashford, he lived his entire life on the family farm. He owned Molnar Construction and Ranlom Dairy. He served as First Selectman and was on the Board of Education during the 1950?s and 60?s; was a member of and tuba player in the Babcock Band, Shrine Band and Melha Band of Springfield, MA. He was a mason belonging to the Uriel Lodge #24 AF&AM, Adoniram Council #14 R&SM, Orient Chapter #42 R.A.M. St. John?s Commandery #11, and Tall Cedars of Lebanon. After retirement he enjoyed traveling across the country. On March 17, 1951 he married Lois B. Paine of Abington. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, five children and their spouses: Darlene and Spencer Otto of Brooklyn, Cynthia Molnar of North Windham, Valerie Molnar of Eastford, Raymond Jr. and Donna Molnar of Ashford and Kathy Molnar of Los Angeles, CA. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, his sister, Rose Strimaitis of Clinton, a brother-in-law, numerous sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings; Emma, Louis, Elizabeth, Stephen and William. A Masonic service will be held at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Rte. 195, Willimantic on Friday at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. His family will receive friends at the funeral home 1 hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CT VNA Hospice, 20 Furnace St., Danielson, CT 06239 or to the Ashford Volunteer Fire Dept., P.O.Box 1, Ashford, CT 06278.
