Raymond K. Silveira died Sunday, December 13, 2015, at Douglas Manor with his family at his side. Born in New Bedford, MA, on June 12, 1928, to Joaquim and Caroline (Machado) Silveira, he grew up in New Bedford, attended public schools there and went on to the University of Massachusetts (New Bedford Textile Institute) where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Textile Chemistry in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army Chemical Corps at Edgewood Arsenal, Edgewood, MD. After serving in the military, he married the love of his life, Louise (Galligan). They were married for 54 years with Louise predeceasing him by several years. He was employed by the American Thread Co. of Willimantic, CT, for 32 years becoming Senior Development Chemist; Manager of the Chemical Laboratory, Technology Division and Manager of Quality Control. Upon American Thread's closing, he became Manager of Technical Services, Julius Koch USA in New Bedford and for several years following, he was a Development Consultant for Brownell & Co., Moodus, CT. He was active in several community organizations including the Parent Teacher Association; the Willimantic Junior Chamber of Commerce, of which he was a charter member; the Industrial Management Club of Willimantic, of which he was President; Unit and District Chairman of the Boy Scouts of American Natchaug District and the Patient Family Advisory Council of Windham Hospital, Willimantic, CT. He enjoyed photography and taking movies, cross country skiing and spending summers at the family summer home in Dartmouth, MA. He is survived by his daughter, Carol and her husband, Clinton P. Aldrich, of North Easton, MA, and his son, David K. Silveira and his wife, Lori, of North Windham, CT. The family will receive friends for calling hours at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson Street (Rte 195), Willimantic, CT Wednesday, December 16, 2015 from 5-7 PM. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 99 Jackson St., Willimantic, CT at 10:00 AM Thursday, December 17, 2015 and there will also be another Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM with family receiving friends at 10:30 AM Friday, December 19, 2015 at St. Mary's Church, 783 Dartmouth St., Dartmouth, MA with a burial to follow in the South Dartmouth Cemetery, Elm Street, South Dartmouth, MA. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made to organization of your choice.
