Raymond Paul Ratte, known simply as "Ray" to those who loved him, passed away on April 3, 2025, at the age of 79. Born in Springfield, Massachusetts, he made his home in Mansfield Center, Connecticut, where he built a life filled with family, purpose, and the things that mattered most.
For nearly five decades, Ray shared his life with his beloved wife, Nancy Ratte. They married in 1978, building a partnership rooted in love, trust, and a deep commitment to each other. Whether tending the garden together, enjoying quiet moments, or simply navigating life side by side, theirs was a bond that needed few words but meant everything.
Ray was also a devoted father. When his son, Brian Ratte, was born in 1988, Ray poured his heart into shaping his life, instilling in him the values he held dear, determination, integrity, and quiet strength. He was more than a father; he was a coach, a mentor, and Brian’s biggest supporter. Whether on the baseball field or in life, Ray was always there, offering guidance, encouragement, and the steady presence Brian could depend on. Their bond was built on trust, love, and the certainty that Ray would always be there for him.
Whether casting a line alongside his son, brother, nephews, and friends, tending the garden with his wife, or hitting the golf course with family, Ray found joy in the simple moments, always with the people he cared about most.
After serving in the Army, Ray built his career in accounting, later leading the internal audit department at AIPSO following his time at Travelers. He took pride in his work, just as he did in being someone his colleagues, family, and friends could depend on.
Ray is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy Ratte; his son, Brian Ratte; his daughter-in-law, Rachel Ratte; his nephew and niece, Michael Ratte and Laurette Ratte; and many friends who were like family. He leaves behind a legacy of quiet strength, loyalty, and love that spoke louder than words ever could.
A private service and burial will be held in his honor.
