Raymond A. Mellor Jr

Raymond A. Mellor Jr., 88, of Manchester, CT formerly of Willimantic, CT, died Monday April 4, 2011 in Manchester. He was born June 11, 1922 in Attleboro, Massachusetts, son of the late Raymond A. and Mary E. (Bescherer) Mellor. After graduating from Attleboro High School in 1940, he enlisted in the US Navy and was trained as a machinist. Using his machinist training, Ray served stateside in World War II maintaining equipment battle ready. Ray made a career in the Navy, having served 30 years in numerous ports including Alaska, Hawaii, New Mexico, Maine, and Rhode Island as well as two tours in Spain. After retiring from the Navy , he used his mechanical abilities working for American Thread in Willimantic, CT where he lived with his wife, Lois, for thirty years. Ray is survived by three nephews, David Mellor of Mansfield, MA, Steven Mellor of West Barnstable, MA and Robert Mellor of Honolulu, HI as well as two nieces, Ruth Davis of Houston, TX and Linda Mellor of Taunton, MA. He also leaves his cousins Robert Bescherer of Bristol, RI, Alice Breese of Attleboro, MA and Mildred Phillips of Rhode Island; three stepchildren, Judy Yorke or Mansfield, CT, Robert Palmer of Taunton, MA and James Palmer of Philadelphia, PA; three step grandchildren including Jason Yorke of Mansfield, CT. and five step great grandchildren including Emily and Michael Yorke of Mansfield, CT. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his brother Richard G. Mellor, a sister Ruth F. Mellor and a step grandson David Yorke. There will be no calling hours.
