Raymond Emile Mellady, 81, of Columbia, CT passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on April 12, 2013, after a short and courageous battle with cancer at home. Ray was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved golfing, bowling and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed spending winters in Florida with his wife. Ray was an Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Willimantic Elks Club Lodge #1311: Veterans of Foreign War as well as a Fourth Degree member of The Knights of Columbus Council #14. Ray was an avid Boston Red Sox and UConn basketball fan. He was born in Willimantic, CT on October 5, 1931 and was the son of the late John and Olivette (Rouette) Mellady. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Claire (Lussier) Mellady, of Columbia, his son Marc and wife Deborah Mellady of Lebanon, daughter Marie and husband Robert Quinn of Lebanon, and son Michael and wife Nanette Mellady of Ashford. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Jeremy, Amanda, Melinda and Michael Mellady, Ryan and Heidi Quinn as well as his great grandchildren Cameron, Talan and Adayln Hancox. Ray is survived by his brother Richard Mellady, sisters Ruth Reynolds, Jane Johnston, and Carol Merchant and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers John Mellady, Jr. and Robert Mellady. Ray is now reunited with his predeceased grandson, Casey Yates who he loved dearly and missed every day. His family will receive friends and relatives Sunday, April 14th at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Rte. 195, Willimantic, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, April 15th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Columba Church in Columbia on Route 87. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Casey's Charities, 175 Sisson Road Lebanon, CT 06249.
