Raymond E. Mattesen, 95, of Stafford Springs, passed away on November 25, 2013 at Johnson Memorial Hospital, Stafford Springs. He was born on May 18, 1918 in Stafford, CT, where he remained a lifelong resident. He served in World War II in the US Army Air Corps in the South Pacific. He returned to Stafford after the war and married Hazel (Guay) Mattesen, now deceased. He made his living in the building trade and was known for his special skills in custom cabinetmaking. Raymond was the last surviving of ten children born to Marietta (Morgansen) Mattesen and Thomas Mattesen of Stafford, CT. He is survived by his daughters Ellen R. Mattesen of Saratoga Springs, NY, Nancy L. Mattesen of Kennebunkport, ME and Betina Mattesen of Nederland, CO; his granddaughter Alodie Feldhousen and grandson Jade Feldhousen, both of CO; a great-granddaughter Rose Feldhousen of CO; and several nieces and nephews. His family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday Nov. 30, 2013 between 10:00 and 11:00am with a service beginning at 11:00am at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic. Interment will follow with military honors at 12:30pm in Stafford Springs Cemetery, Rte. 32, Stafford Springs.
