Rev. Ramon Luis Negron (formerly of Willimantic) passed away on June 20, 2015, at Hartford Hospital. Born on November 7, 1933 in Aguas Buenas, PR to Ramon Negron and Francisca "Panchita" Morales. During his teen years, Papi's dream was to join the U.S. Army. Every week he would walk to the next town over (Caguas) to the recruiting office. He did this so often, the recruiters knew him by name. Every week, it was the same result - he would stand on the scale, only to be to be told he did not meet the weight requirement. Little did they know.... that was why he wanted to join... It meant three full meals a day! Needless to say, military life was not to be in his deck of cards. In 1952, Papi migrated to the mainland U.S. He came to work in agriculture in the tobacco fields of Glastonbury and Windsor. In 1958, he met Hilda Iris Santos. They married on March 21, 1959 and remained married "until death did they part" on June 13, 2014. Papi worked at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, took a machinist training at Prince Tech and worked at Pratt & Whitney. He eventually left because the only shift available to him was 3rd and he did not like his wife to be home alone at night. Papi then went to work at Jet Air, where he worked for many years until an eye injury, which did not allow him to be able to do his type of work anymore. In 1974 the Negron family moved to Willimantic from Hartford because Papi was made Minister of the Iglesia Cristiana Pentecostal de Willimantic. The ministry became both of Papi's and Mami's callings. In 1978, the Negrons were able to fulfill the American dream of buying a house. Papi was very dedicated to his ministry and his family. He continued to work full-time at Jet Air traveling Monday-Friday to South Windsor, giving services five times a week and attending to his family, volunteering twice a week at WAIM, visiting the sick in the hospital, nursing homes and their homes, along with serving on the Willimantic Housing Authority Board of Directors. Papi was also very interested in politics. He registered people to vote, drove them to the polls and often served as interpreter. In 1996, Papi and Mami retired and moved to Deland, FL. There, they continued with their church involvement (as members) and worked with their ministry of choice, visiting and helping the elderly. Papi was an avid vegetable and fruit gardener. He proudly showed and shared the fruits of his labor to everyone that walked into his home. He shared with people he knew were in need. Papi leaves his daughter, Ann Esther (Anita) Negron and grandson, Joshua Alain Negron (Willimantic); his son SSG (Ret.) Ramon Luis Negron, Jr. (Papo)(United States Army), his wife Amelia, along with his grandchildren Ramon Luis Negron III (GA), Rosa Iris Garcia - her husband Omar and great grandson, Jason Abel (GA); Josue Javier (J.J.)
