Ralph J. Ellis, 87, of South Windsor, formerly a resident of Columbia for 50 years, husband of Hilda (Harrison) Ellis, died Tuesday, July 13, 2010 in Manchester. He was born October 12, 1922 in Graystone, RI, the son of William and Lydia (Howard) Ellis. He was a member of Eastern Star Lodge #44 A.F. & A.M. for 49 years and was a Past-Master of the Lodge. Ralph was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron 42 on PT 619. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and boat building. He and his wife traveled extensively throughout the eastern United States and the Caribbean. In addition to his wife of 66 years, he is survived by a son, Howard Ellis and his wife Heidi Jean (Chapman) Ellis of Tolland, a granddaughter, Casey Jean Ellis and a grandson, Connor John Ellis. He was predeceased by a grandson, Corey James Ellis and two brothers, Edgar William and Arthur Howard who died in a Japanese POW camp. Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
