Rafael Guzman Lopez Obituary
On Thursday October 13th, 2022 Rafael Guzman Lopez, passed away peacefully.
Rafael was born on September 23, 1929 in Utuado, Puerto Rico where he met the love of his life Edith. He moved to CT with his wife in 2020 so their daughters could help with their care. Rafael was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather so much more to all who knew him. He was a successful entrepreneur as a traveling salesman selling auto parts all over the island. Rafael served in Army between 1951-1954, he was stationed in Korea during the Korean War and fought with the 65th Infantry also known as "The Borinqueneers" and was awarded a Purple Heart. Years later he became a marathon runner and ran marathons all over the island along side his wife. He was most proud of running 4 New York City Marathons as well as one in Cuba. When not running marathons you could find him on his porch playing his guitar “El Cuatro” and singing songs or working on projects around the house. Rafael and Edith for many years spent their summers and even some winters in CT visiting their family. He enjoyed telling stories of his youth and his time traveling when he was in the Army. He will be remembered for his kind heart, sense of humor, his stubbornness that only family could love and his ability to strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere.
Rafael is preceded by his wife Edith Morales Mendez, son Rafael Guzman Jr and siblings Neftali, Carmen, Rosa and Georgina. He is survived by his daughters Zaida Guzman and Madelyn Guzman, siblings Viviana, Ana, Haydee, and Israel, grandchildren Jessica Cass, Michael Larson, and Omayra Quiles and his 9 great grandchildren.
The Guzman Family would like to thank all of those who have kept their family in their thoughts and prayers especially the last few years. It truly means a lot to them all.
No arrangements have been made for his Military Burial at this time. The family will contact those who are interested in attending.
