Prescott Bishop Spencer of Storrs, CT, passed on September 15, 2026. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Alice Jane (Flewwellin) Spencer. He was born in Providence, RI on November 18, 1936, one of two children of Harry and Edith Spencer. Prescott was raised in North Scituate, RI, where he attended the North Scituate Baptist Church. This is where he met Alice Jane. After high school, Prescott enlisted and served in the Air Force and Air National Guard’s 103rd Fighter Group, the “Flying Yankees.” Prescott married Alice Jane on May 4,1957. He and Alice Jane moved to Storrs, CT as Prescott took a job at AT&T in Hartford CT.

Church was an important part of life for Prescott. Prescott and Alice first attended Warrenville Baptist Church; then spent many years as members of the Willimantic Baptist Church, and for the last number of years at First Baptist Church of Mansfield, CT. Over the years, Prescott served on the deacons, trustees, as an usher, capital campaign member, executive minister search committees, and as one of the many who maintained the church buildings and grounds wherever he worshiped. In addition, Prescott served for many years on the Thursday Crew at American Baptist, Camp Wightman, working on a wide variety of maintenance projects throughout the property.

Prescott had a passion for all things Ford/Lincoln, owning dozens over the course of his life: sedans, vans, towncars, SUV’s, and a plethora of pick up trucks. He was quite the “do-it-yourselfer,’ ’building their home, two additions to that home, and a barn. He also converted a van and a truck into campers for family vacations. Prescott was always willing to assist in other building projects with his children, relatives, neighbors, friends, and at church. Prescott sported a “distinctive” image. Along with a self selective wardrobe, he never left the house without his railroad style engineer cap donned with several lapel pins.

Early retirement from AT&T did not stop Prescott from other careers. He spent time working for a lumber company in Willimantic, and then worked several years at Windham Hospital on their maintenance crew and even drove the hospital health van throughout the region.

Prescott enjoyed his crosswords, reading, and discussing politics. As a result of Alice Jane’s love and talent as a quilter, Prescott would often assist her with her quilts, and over time became a quilter himself.

The most special part of Prescott was his love for his wife and the love for his children. Family always came first for Prescott. He and Alice Jane (“Kiddo”) were teenage sweethearts, and they remained devoutly in love and dedicated to each other until death.

He is survived by his sister, Sue Black of North Smithfield, RI; and three of his four children: Katherine Jesmonth and her husband Kevin of Albion, RI; Gwen Spencer and her husband, Ozzie Picard, of Sutton, MA; and Todd Spencer and his wife Kirstin of East Haddam, CT. His 4th child, Michael Spencer predeceased him in 2015 due to cancer.

He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Jessica Kender and her husband Bob; Wesley Spencer and his wife Jane; Kyle Spencer; Cassandra Carmello and her husband Joey; Brenden Spencer and his wife Jillian; Lauren Spencer and her husband Eric; Ashley Picard and Alex Picard. He is also survived by seven great grandchildren - Sadie, Truman, Michaela, Grace, Robert, Jack, and Makenzie, with an eighth on the way, and step-grandchildren - Dean, Shamus, and Molly (predeceased).

He will be greatly missed. His life blessed many individuals. There will be a graveside burial with immediate family in attendance. Donations can be made to the First Baptist Church of Mansfield in his memory.
