Phyllis Trowbridge Obituary
Phyllis Maude [Eichner, Gormley] Trowbridge, 87, of Mansfield, CT, beloved wife of Thomas Trowbridge, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, February 9, 2025.

Phyllis was born July 13, 1937, to Joseph Eichner and Rose [Ruschak] Eichner in Mansfield, CT.  After graduating from Windham High School in 1955, she spent two years working as a secretary at the Hartford Fire Insurance Company in Hartford, CT.  In 1957, she began her career at the University of Connecticut in Storrs, CT.  She married Stanley Gormley Jr. on November 4, 1961 and left her job to be a homemaker and mother to son, Stanley Gormley III, and daughter, Allison Gormley.  After the sudden tragic loss of her husband in 1967, she returned to work at the University of Connecticut in 1968, where she worked until her retirement at age 59.  After being a widow for 27 years, Phyllis met and married Thomas Trowbridge on April 22, 1995.  They resided in Brooklyn, CT for 30 years.  They shared a love of travel and frequently visited favorite spots in Maine and took a trip to Alaska.

Most importantly, Phyllis and Tom shared the love of their savior, Jesus Christ.  They were very active in the Gideons International ministry for more than twenty years and attended and spoke at many Gideon Conferences and churches on behalf of the Gideons.  Phyllis was passionate about sharing the Lord’s love and plan of salvation and would hand out new Testaments to anyone she met.

Phyllis was predeceased by her parents and brothers, Dan Eichner, Joseph Eichner Jr., and Frank Eichner, and sisters, Eleanor [Eichner] Walsh, Sylvia [Eichner] Conlombe, and Josephine [Eichner] Marrotte.  She is survived by her husband, Tom, sister, Janet [Eichner] Farmer, and her son, Stan and his wife, Suzie [Durdan] Gormley, daughter, Allison, stepson, Ben Trowbridge, and stepdaughter, Beth [Trowbridge] Butler.  She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Phyllis was dearly loved by her family and will be greatly missed until we all meet again in glory.

Calling hours will be held 9:00AM – 10:00AM on Friday, February 14, 2025, at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson Street, Willimantic, CT.  Burial will be private.  A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2015, 11:00 – 12:00PM to be followed by a luncheon at The First Congregational Church of Pomfret, 13 Church Road, Pomfret Center, CT.  Donations to The Gideons International may be made in lieu of flowers.
