Phyllis V. (Maine) Cates, 84, of Chaplin, wife of the late Douglas Cates, died Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at Windham Hospital. She was born August 27, 1928 in Scotland, CT, the daughter of Bernard and Florence (Geer) Maine and had lived in Chaplin most of her life. She had been employed for 17 years at Stop & Shop in Willimantic and as a driver for Eastconn for 20 years. Phyllis loved to garden and spend time with her grandchildren. She is survived by five children, Mary Hanka of Willimantic, Alfred Cates of Florida, Douglas Cates of Chaplin, Darcy Landick and her husband Todd of Hampton, and Kerry Sacchi and her husband Frank of Chaplin, nine grandchildren, Shawn, Ashley and Jonathan, Daniel and Gregory, Maxwell and Christopher, Abigail and Patrick and one great granddaughter, Alana. Her family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, September 21st 2012 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Rte. 195, Willimantic. Funeral service will be Saturday, September 22nd at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the South Chaplin Cemetery. Please visit
