Philip J. Godeck Sr

CWO Philip J. Godeck Sr., 95, of Lebanon, formerly of Hartford, passed away on Mar 31, 2010 at Windham Memorial Hospital Willimantic. He was born in Springfield, MA on June 20, 1914. In 1933 he enlisted in the United States Army and after serving a two year hitch, was transferred to the 169th Inf. Regt. (Co. H. Owens Guard) of the Conn. National Guard serving until 1941 and then was placed in the Organized Reserve Corps (ORC) until recalled into active service in 1942. He graduated from Infantry Cadre and the Photography Schools and then served in the Asiatic Theater, returning to instruct at the Officers Candidate School (OCS) Fort Benning GA and was discharged in 1946. He then enlisted in the Army Reserve in 1947 and was assigned to the Signal Co of the 76th Infantry Division, attending Signal School at Fort Monmouth N.J and the New England Technical School of Electronics. He was commissioned Warrant Officer in 1955. He was appointed New England Director of M.A.R.S. (Military Affiliated Radio Systems) from 1956 to 1961. In 1960 when the 76th Division was redesigned as a Training Division, CWO Godeck was transferred to the Food Service and has served as the Division Food Adviser until 1974. He completed the QM Food Service Course at Fort Lee VA. and the Industrial College of Armed Forces. He was a Past Commander of the Polish Legion of American Veterans Post 511, past member of the Connecticut Department of the PLAV, past member of the Hartford Veterans Council and life member of the Reserve Officers Association of U.S. He served as Connecticut Department Secretary of the ROA. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Kunc) Godeck of Lebanon, two children, Philip Godeck Jr. of Lebanon and Elizabeth Ellis of South Windsor. He was predeceased by two grandchildren Linda Rizzo and Deborah Schools and a great grandson Jason Schools. He is survived by grandchildren, Philip Godeck III, Cynthia Duprey and Diane Buttimer; great grandchildren Danielle and Kelsey Schools, Derek, Kyle and Breanna Duprey, Nicolas and Alexis Buttimer, Shaina Rizzo, Emily and Heather Godeck, and a great great grandson Gavin Duprey. His family will receive relatives and friends on Monday April 5th between 6:00 and 8:00pm at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, West Town St., Lebanon, with assembly at the church. Interment will follow in Mt.
