Peter F. Tracy, Jr.

September 16, 1927 — July 4, 2016

Peter Francis Tracy, Jr., 88, of Willimantic, CT passed away peacefully on July 4, 2016 after a brief battle with colon cancer. Peter was born in Willimantic, CT on September 16, 1927 to the late Peter and Eva (Nilan) Tracy. He graduated from Killingly High School and studied Insurance at the University of Connecticut. Peter completed apprentice seaman training at the U.S. Maritime Service Training Station at Sheepshead Bay, NY in 1945 and served in the U.S. Merchant Marine. Later, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was discharged in 1956. Always an avid reader and history buff, his service gave him an opportunity to see the world and amass countless stories with which to captivate his grandchildren. Peter made his career in electrical construction and was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 42. Years after retiring, he could still tell you the inner workings of the intersections, roadways, bridges and airports he had a part in constructing with his crew throughout the state of Connecticut and Massachusetts. From Hanscom AFB to the reconstruction of the Mianus River Bridge, he was known for his high standards and took great pride in the quality of the work of ?his crew?. After leaving the service, Peter joined the American Legion Post 19 and the VFW Post 1724 and developed many friendships that lasted for decades. His own kindnesses and contributions over the years were returned many fold in recent months and for that he was truly grateful. Peter leaves behind his daughter Nell D?Auria and her husband Jay of Toronto, Canada as well as three grandchildren, Matthew, Carolyn and Clare D?Auria. He was tremendously proud of them and encouraged them is their studies and endeavours at every opportunity. He is also survived by siblings: Ruth Blake, of New Jersey; Eve Goeken and her husband Bill, of Windham; Alfred Tracy and his wife Anne, of Hartford; and Janet Harrington and her husband Patrick, of Florida; and his sister-in-law Natalie Tracy. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and dear friends of all ages. He is predeceased by his brothers John, James, Frederick and George; his sisters Jeanette, Marie and Margaret; his ex-wife Daisy Tracy and his stepdaughter, Pamela Smith. A special thank you to the devoted and caring staff at Douglas Manor and Windham Hospital for always going the extra mile to help brighten Peter?s days.
