Peter T. Misak, 80, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 in Windham, Connecticut surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Born in Willimantic, Connecticut March 1932 he graduated from Windham High in 1950 and joined the U.S. Navy in April 1951. Peter was assigned to the USS Battleship Wisconsin and proudly served God and country for 4 years during the Korean War. Peter and his shipmates received many awards during this war. In August 1953, Peter married his high school sweetheart Janet Casey, they were married for 59 wonderful and happy years. Peter was hired as an HVAC specialist/foreman by Pratt Whitney Aircraft and worked there for 37 years. After retiring from Pratt, Peter enjoyed being deeply involved in his grandchildren's lives and was a faithful member of St. Josephs Church in Willimantic. Peter returned to the workforce and worked for Lynch Toyota for 19 years. Peter loved life, his family, friends, and coworkers and especially loved to travel. He was always happy, smiling and made the room bright no matter how dark the times. He had a tremendous sense of humor. We will miss him dearly. Survived by his wife Janet C. Misak, daughters Deborah Roche of West Hartford, Catherine D'Onofrio of East Hartland, and Janet Grunwald of Griswold, son-in-laws Kevin Roche and Thomas D'Onofrio, grandchildren, Megan Grunwald, Kathleen Roche and Erin Roche, many nieces and nephews and was predeceased by son-in-law Kurt Grunwald. His family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday April 29th 2012 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Wilimantic. There will be a gathering at the funeral home on Monday, April 30th at 9:15 a.m. prior to the procession to his Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, Willimantic.
