Peter Golab, 92, of Columbia, died at home on Monday, June 6, 2005, the anniversary of his marriage to his late wife, Helen. He was born in Ivoryton, CT, June 19, 1912, the son of the late Martin and Magdalena Golab. Peter spent most of his adult life in Columbia. A hardworking and robust man, he worked for many local businesses over the years and worked on the construction of the Mansfield Hollow Dam. During his retirement years he remained an avid gardener, was a whiz at playing cards and loved dining out. He is survived by three sons, Richard (Geraldine) of Hebron, Gerald of Lebanon and Stanley (Sandra) of North Windham, two daughters, Carol (William) Kuhn Sr. of North Windham and Lorraine (Roland) Cloutier of Ashford, five grandchildren, Michael (Cathy) of California, Amy Reaves of Columbia, Gail Uricchio of Ashford, Steven (Allison) Hemingway of Chaplin and Jessica Golab of Willington, three great grandchildren, Samuel, Daniel, and Henry Reaves of California, two sisters, Claire Yantosh of Middletown, Elizabeth Northam of Moodus, a brother, Joseph Golab of Center Harbor, NH, many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife he was predeceased by his daughter, Shirley Reaves, grandson Robert Heath, brother John and sisters, Rita Blakely, Sister Mary Beatta and Marie Lukasik. His family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Rte. 195, Willimantic on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the Center Cemetery, Columbia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 2550 US Highway 1, North Brunswick, NJ 08902-4301.
