Pearl L. Emmert

Pearl L. Emmert, 92, of Storrs, died Thursday January 31, 2013. She was born in 1921 in Worcester, MA, where she attended local schools. Pearl was captain of the tennis team in high school, and later at the University of Massachusetts. She graduated with an R.N. Degree from Worcester City Hospital in 1942. During World War II she served as an officer in the U.S. Navy. After the war she was appointed to the Health Service staff of Amherst College. Pearl later earned a B.S. Degree at University of Massachusetts, and then was appointed to the infirmary staff. She eventually joined the staff of the Health Service Division of University of Connecticut in a supervisory capacity. She retired from the university in 1980. In her retirement she was active in the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation programs, the Mansfield Public Health Nursing Association, the Red Cross Blood Bank drives and others. She traveled extensively and gave slide talks on her adventures abroad. She is survived by her husband Fred, a son Robert A. Emmert, of Tijeras, NM and a sister Joyce Carson, of Houston, TX.
