Pauline Ann Palmquist died on January 15, 2014 in Haddam after a brief illness. Pauline ("Polly") was born in the family farmhouse in Wauseon, Ohio, on March 31, 1921, the daughter of Dennis Aeschliman and Lydia (Keiser) Aeschliman. The family lived on the family farm in Wauseon. Pauline went to public schools in Wauseon and Montpelier, and graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1943 as a Business Administration major. At Bowling Green she was vice-president of her class. After graduation she enlisted in the Women's Army Corps (WAC) and was stationed in Long Beach, California, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Washington, DC, where she worked in cryptology at an Army Air Force message center. In 1945 in Wauseon she married William Warren Palmquist of Bridgeport, Conn., in the U. S. Navy at the time. At war's end and following their discharges from the armed services, the couple settled in Lakewood and Rocky River, Ohio, where their five children were born and raised. In 1960 the family moved to New Canaan, Conn., where they lived for nine years. William Palmquist died in 1988. Pauline bought a farm in North Franklin, Conn., where she lived until 2011. She then moved to The Saybrook at Haddam. Pauline worked as head of public relations for William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, Conn. , and retired in 1981. She married Malcolm J. Lang, who died in 1990. Pauline served as a member of the Town of Franklin, Conn., Planning and Zoning Commission and later worked part-time as secretary for several Town of Franklin boards and commissions. Pauline served on the vestry of Christ Episcopal Church, Norwich. She was a member of Delta Gamma sorority, the Women's Club of Storrs, St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Windham Center, and the Storrs-Willimantic Branch of American Association of University Women. She volunteered at Backus Hospital, the Connecticut State Museum of Natural History, and the Janet Carlson Calvert Library in Franklin. She traveled extensively and enjoyed gardening and reading. In addition to her late husbands William and Malcolm, she was pre-deceased by her sister, Marguerite (Aeschliman) Chamberlain, and her brother Dennis Aeschliman, Jr. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Barbara Aeschliman, of Pemberville, Ohio. She is survived by her children, David W. Palmquist and wife Rosemary of Kinderhook, NY; John D. Palmquist and wife Diane of Cape Coral, Florida; Sarah E. Palmquist and husband G. Scott Griffin of Annapolis, Maryland; Susan A. Palmquist and partner Stephen Porzio, of Gilroy, California; and Nancy K. Palmquist of New York City. She also leaves five grandchildren, Rebecca Taylor (Palmquist) Ekstrom and her husband, Bryan, of West Sand Lake, NY; William D. J. Palmquist, of Richmond, VA; Eric Palmquist of Denver, Colorado; Kyle Palmquist and husband Douglas Moody of Durham, North Carolina, and Andrew Griffin, of Annapolis, MD. Calling hours will be held on Sunday January 19, 2014 between 6:00pm and 8:00pm at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson Street (Rte. 195) Willimantic. The funeral will be on Monday January 20, 2014 at 11:00am at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 27 Plains Rd., Windham Center, CT. Burial will be private in Pautipaug Cemetery, Franklin.
