Paul A. Colombo

May 17, 1922 — November 26, 2014

Paul A. Colombo, 92, of Storrs, CT, formerly of Quincy, MA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November, 26, 2014 at Mansfield Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Storrs, CT with Carol his wife and dearest companion of 47 years at his side, whom he loved so much he told her every day. Also there were his dear friends Connie and Rod. Paul was born in Boston, MA in 1922 and attended Boston English and Boston Latin High Schools, and Dartmouth College Courtesy of the U.S. Government until the war ended in 1945. Paul served in the U.S. Marine Corps in WWII in the South Pacific, on Guadalcanal, New Britain, New Guinea and Pavuvu. He received two Purple Hearts for his service. He was proud of this to his last day on earth, always saying: "You're either a live Marine or a dead Marine." Now he's with his late buddies. After the war Paul worked for New England Telephone in the Plant Department and General Office Staff as manager until the divestiture of AT&T in December 1983. He enjoyed going to work every day. Upon his retirement he joined President's Golf Course in Quincy, MA where he spent his time while waiting for his wife to retire. He opened the course in the morning, put out the carts, and was 1st off every day. He was honored at the 26th Annual Norfolk County Classic there. Paul loved to travel and especially loved Italy and also Bermuda where he vacationed for 37 years, sometimes twice a year and took a break from golf. In 2005 he moved to Storrs, CT where he had frequently visited his wife's parents. He loved his home and yard where he felt very content. Always an avid concert and theater goer, he was thrilled to be near the Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts at UCONN where he never wanted to miss a single performance. He became a co-star there, which was very important and a matter of pride to him. He also enjoyed all of the other offerings of the School of Fine Arts at UCONN. The Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots and Golf were his favorite professional sports to watch, along with UCONN Football and men's and women's basketball teams. In addition to his beloved wife Carol, Paul leaves 3 granddaughters and spouses, a grandson, 9 great grandchildren, a nephew and wife, a niece, 3 great nephews, a great niece and 2 sisters-in-law. He was predeceased by his sister Marie Pasciscia of Waltham, MA. He also leaves his 2 remaining buddies: Al and Pete, and dear friends Gail, Connie and Rod, Chris, Paula and Brid to name just a very few. He loved people and had a generous and outgoing spirit. There will be no calling hours, funeral or memorial service as Paul's wishes had been adamantly expressed. His ashes will be scattered as per his instructions.
