Paul Carlson Obituary
Paul V. Carlson, a remarkable man, cherished for his creative spirit and handy craftsmanship, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2025, at Windham Hospital at the age of 78. He was born on March 10, 1946, in Hartford Connecticut. Paul’s life was characterized by his dedication to his work, love of nature, and the joy he found in simple pleasures.
Paul graduated from Charlestown high school in New Hampshire and soon after embarked on what would become a lifelong career with Brand Rex/General Cable for 48 years. There he served as a facility and grounds maintainer, a role in which his dedication and hard work were evident to all who knew him. His commitment to the company, and the people he worked with, was a testament to his steadfast character.
Outside of work, Paul’s interests were as varied as they were passionate; a keen birdwatcher, he found solace in the serenity of nature, often sharing his love with his longtime partner, Lorraine. Together, they spent countless hours at their mountain top cabin in Vermont, a sanctuary that provided respite and happiness for both.
Paul’s talent as a carpenter was well regarded, with many admiring his skills in woodworking. His hands crafted not only functional pieces, but also embodied his spirited nature, leaving a legacy of beauty in the stonewalls and walkways he enjoyed building. His creations were more than structures; they were a reflection of his soul.
Paul is survived by his devoted long-life partner, Lorrain Rainey, his brother Charles Carson and his wife Peg, his sister Darlene Carlson and partner Roger, and his beloved niece Shannon Ferrera. Paul’s life was further enriched by his two best friends, Don Messier and James Elliot, both of whom were his Bon Hommes in his eyes.
Those who knew Paul would describe him as not only creative and spirited, but also exceedingly handy. His ability to envision and bring to life his ideas were unparalleled, and his presence will be deeply missed by all. Paul’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved him, but his spirit will continue to inspire us as we look up on the stone pathways he laid and wooden structures he built. We remember his hands, strong and sure, crafting not just artifacts, but also an enduring legacy of a life well lived.
In honor of a life so beautifully lived, we say farewell to Paul Carlson, a man who touched the lives of many and his memory will forever be etched in our hearts. Rest in peace, dear friend, brother, uncle, and partner. Your spirit will always walk the paths you created among the gardens you cherished. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
