Orra Viola Mott, born on July 23, 1933, passed away unexpectedly at Windham Hospital on Thursday May 27, 2010. She was the daughter of the late Arthur H. Mott, Jr. and the late Bernice Viola Ives Mott. She is survived by her siblings Mary Deptula of Columbia, Charlie Mott of Kansas, Paul Mott of Vernon, Joanie Belanger of Las Vegas, Edward Mott of Mansfield, Lois Ereshena of Windham, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by siblings Roger Mott, Herman Mott, Danny Mott, Robbie Mott, and Betty Hagan. She also leaves her family at the Birch Street Group Home and her beloved cat Jingle Bells. Orra was a fiercely independent lady who always had her own mind about things. She loved flowers and took pride in her outside garden. She also loved doing arts and crafts, putting puzzles together, embroidering, and caring for her pets. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to tease. Orra worked at the Tobacco Valley Inn for many years. She was also employed at the laundry at Mansfield Training School and at the Hockanum Industries Greenhouse where she also sold flower pots that she painted. In her retirement she enjoyed doing arts and crafts at Everlasting Designs in Columbia. Orra was a spokesperson for the rights of people with developmental disabilities and served on the Aging Committee of DMR. She will be greatly missed by her biological family and her family at the Birch Street Group Home and everyone at Network. Her family will receive relatives and friends on Monday May 31st between 5:00 and 7:00pm at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic. There will be a graveside service Tuesday June 1st at 1:00pm in New Willimantic Cemetery on Rte 32 at the intersection of Rte. 6, Willimantic, with a gathering at her home at 180 Birch St. Willimantic following the service.
