Olive Field Obituary
Olive May (Rathbun) Field of Columbia passed into peace on January 23, 2021, after a long battle with dementia. Olive grew up in Hebron CT, the daughter of the late Charles and Mabel Rathbun. She attended Hebron schools and graduated from Windham High School in 1954.

She married the love of her life, Nelson Field, in May 1969. Together they built their home in Columbia where they happily raised their family.

Olive was very active in Columbia Cub Scouts, Columbia Recreation Council and
Willimantic Midget Football as well as serving on the Columbia Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary for many years. Olive was involved in everything her children did whether it be cheering them on, keeping score, running them to games and events or planning and helping with fundraisers. She cared for their friends as if they were her own and became a second mom to so many.

Olive retired as a mail carrier from the Columbia Post office after 33 years. She made lifelong friends and met so many wonderful people during her time there. She always loved to antique, garden and watch her birds.

She was predeceased by her oldest son James R Lester. She is survived by her husband Nelson Field, daughter in law Lisa Lester, daughter Teresa Thompson and her partner Robert LaFontaine, son Chuck Lester and daughter Nelisa Reagan and her husband Rich. Olive also leaves her beloved grandchildren, her absolute pride and joy, James W Lester and his wife Samantha, Amanda Lester, Mallory Thompson, and Amber LaFontaine and Anna and Caitlin Reagan. Mammy loved nothing more than to spend time with, teach, spoil and love each of them. Olive also leaves her sister Eleanor Haggerty and her husband John as well as many nieces and nephews.

We would like to give a special thank you to all of the amazing staff at Mansfield Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation for the tremendous love and care they gave to Olive and to our family.

A small private service will be held with the family and a celebration of Olive’s  life will be held at a later date. I lieu of flowers we ask that you make a donation in Olive’s name to the Columbia Volunteer Fire Department 167 Route 66 P.O. Box 26 Columbia,CT. 06237
