Olena Sumsky

Olena Sumsky, 91, of McDermott Ave. Willimantic, widow of Stefan Sumsky, died Tuesday Sept. 16, 2003 at the Windham Hospital. She was born Oct. 3, 1911 in Czechoslovakia, the daughter of Gregory and Anna Cap. She came to the United States in 1958 from Belgium and was employed as the housekeeper at St. Joseph Church Rectory in Willimantic for 25 years. Mrs. Sumsky enjoyed working in her flower gardens and traveling. Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by a son and daughter in law Louis and Lenora Sumsky of Manchester, 2 daughters and sons in law; Anna and Laszlo Damsits of Vernon and Maria and Chester Mieczynski of S. Windham and 6 grandchildren; William and Andrew Damsits, Daniel, Sandra and David Mieczynski and Stefan Sumsky. Her family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic TODAY from 6:00 to 8:00pm. There will be a gathering at the funeral home on Friday at 10:15am prior to her 11:00am Funeral Mass at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St. Willimantic with burial following in St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham. In lieu of flowers, her family suggests memorial donations to St. Joseph Church Renovation Fund, 99 Jackson St. Willimantic, Ct. 06226.
