Normand M. Burns

Normand Michel Burns, 78, of Lebanon, beloved husband of Jean K. (Esala) Burns, died Wednesday November 21, 2001 at St. Joseph Living Center after a long battle with cancer. He was born February 5, 1923 in Willimantic, the son of the late Micheal and Anna (Chalifoux) Burns. Normand joined the Navy in 1942 and proudly served in World War II and beyond until his retirement at the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer in 1963 after 21 years of service. He was employed by Stop & Shop as a meat cutter for 20 years retiring from the Willimantic store in 1983. Normand served two terms as president of the Lebanon Lions Club and was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge. In addition to his wife he is survived by three sons; Thomas Burns of Huntsville, AL, William Burns of Rutherfordton, NC, Normand Burns of Lebanon, two daughters; Jean Gudlewski of Manchester, Kathy Weissenborn of Willimantic, 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Susan Sullivan. His family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, corner of Rte. 289 and Village Hill Rd., Lebanon. Burial will follow in the New Lebanon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, his family suggests memorial donations to the Redeemer Lutheran Church Building Fund (for Handicapped Access) 361 Beaumont Highway, Lebanon, CT 06249 or to St. Joseph Living Center, 14 Club Rd. Windham, CT 06280.
