Norma Douglass Ladd, of South Windham, died peacefully at home on Sept. 20, 2024. She was born on Aug. 1, 1934, to George T. Douglas and Alice Paradis Douglas. Norma was predeceased by her parents and her husband of 40 years, Raymond Lester Ladd Jr. She was also predeceased by her brother, Wayne Douglass, and her two sons, Raymond Curtis Ladd and Craig Alan Ladd, plus many beloved dogs.
Norma is survived by her brother Spencer Douglas and three sons: Clayton Ladd and his wife Trish and their children Shay and Raymond; Colin Ladd and his wife Jeanne; Lance Ladd and his wife Carol and their daughters Jennifer and Kimberly; and a great-grandson, Eros Toth.
Norma was very active in the Windham Youth Organization, was a 4-H leader, and a cub scout leader. She was also a Sunday School Teacher at South Windham Congregational church and took special pleasure in organizing a monthly friendship luncheon for local Senior Citizens at the South Windham church.
Norma also helped at the South Windham library and was very active in local Genealogy groups, Pinocle Club, and enjoyed dancing and socializing with the Windham Whirlers Square Dance Club in the early 1970s and again in the late 1980s. Norma sold Beeline Clothing and ran a traveling concessions truck at auctions and a concession stand at Lauter Park.
Norma single-handedly organized and hosted two separate annual family reunions for over twenty years. She was locally famous for her legendary cooking and baking skills, including grape pie, “Knock Your Socks OFF” cake, lavish holiday celebrations, and excellent casseroles for Potluck Suppers.
Norma has lived in the Windham area since she was 11. For many years, she enjoyed working as the Perennial Expert at Ladd’s Garden Center.
Taking care of the family was Norma Ladd’s primary joy; she was truly an extraordinary homemaker, wife, and mother. Her memory will forever live in the hearts of those who loved her.
